Me and my Nikon D90

A sudden detour in life brought me to the world of blogging
and also my Nikon D90.
Life is never certain, everyday is a new day to me
and tomorrow is another gift of god
that's if i am still around,
so cherish each day,
for you will never know if there is still a tomorrow...

Wind Turbines of Pulau Perhentian

It fits the tag of sustainable, renewable and green power
but it didn't last even a year. After a colorful launch
these two wind turbine which is part of a Hybrid Power Plant,
a mix of diesel engine, solar and wind meant for the villager on the island
failed and had been down since.
If the wind turbine had been running well there would be some extra power
that could be eventually sold to the hoteliers on the island
who have been depending on their own individual diesel generating sets
for power thus contributing to air and noise pollution with the risk of oil spillage
on a beautiful tourism island where diving and water activities is a major attraction.
The big question posed by most of the islander is
why can't somebody get it repaired?
or is it going to be another white elephant?

Back to the 80ies-Kuantan

I have many fond memories of the eighties
where i finished my studies and move on to join the workforce.
Here are some old photos that i scanned from my old album,
photos taken with a Nikon FG SLR camera,
my second one after the first one a Ricoh KR5 was stolen.
After 30 years most of these color photos have faded
especially the earlier ones on Fuji paper
except the last one of the Vietnamese boat
with Kodak paper which still maintained the color it once was 30 years ago.
Talking about quality paper!

A night shot of the Bukit Ubi Road Roundabout
which have since been replaced by traffic lights.

Telok Chempedak Beach viewed from Hyatt Hotel.

Night view of Kuantan Riverside from nearby the present municipal's office.

Night street view of the Main Street,
taken from the old bus station side

The eighties also saw the opening of the biggest and tallest shopping complex in the east coast
of Malaysia, the 28 storey Teruntum Complex,
here are some shots taken from the roof.
The old bus station can be seen by the riverside.

A view of Bukit Ubi Road with the Darul Makmur Stadium and Bukit Sekilau at the back.

A new pedestrian bridge across Mahkota Road.

Eighties was also the era of the Vietnamese Boat People
after the fall of Saigon.

Mesmerized by the Hunchback Rock.

A beautiful silhouette of the Hunchback Rock at sunset
is enough to leave me mesmerized for the rest of the day.
This is my choice for the best sunset view on Labuan Island.

According to local folk story,
The Hunchback Rock or 'Batu SiBongkok' in malay
is a rock said to resemble a hunchback man sitting in yoga position
who turned into stone after being touched by his wife during meditation,
apparently it's a taboo for him to be called or touched when he is doing his meditation.
It's situated about a km from Kampung Rancha-Rancha Laut
and can be reach during low tide.

It seems to be holding a plate with his hand.

The small stream which flows out from Kampung Ranggu.

A sea snake in the stream,if bitten an additional
rock will be in the making.
