This old Iban Parang Nyabor belongs to Mr.Kuling Ganing, a shutdown crew member.
It have been passed on from his father to him and it must be more than a hundred years old.
It's tilt (hulu) is made of deer's horn and hand carved with fine design which Mr Kuling
was unable to duplicate on another sword he made from chain saw metal.
The hilt maker he engaged for the job just gave up.
This hand carving rivals that of the chinese ivory carvings.
This is the other parang that Mr. Kuling tried to duplicate

the hilt from the original.
The tilt is too hard to be carved,
i think there must be some special procedures to soften it
before it is able to be carved.
that the blade maker refuse to complete what was originally planned.
The top part is supposed to have the 'mata langai tinang' and the bottom the 'mata kunding.
The scabbard looks nice.

"I have been acquiring all manners of Dayak art for many years and live in the region. I occasionally acquire old Mandau handles mostly Dayak Kenyah motifs as Iban folks are out of my area. I have focused on the old as is usually considered a 'ritual amulet.' These are important acquisitions even the new ones as they conspire to traditional motif."
