The problematic bearing no:1 cover which frequently have oil leak is probably cause by wrong tightening sequence,type of liquid gasket used or distorted contact surface.
(the Swiss and the Germans always insist on using Hylomar Universal Blue,that was one of the major contributor to the problem,others like the Japanese with their Three Bond while the Americans loves their Loctite. )
I always use Loctite 510 on GE bearing covers because of its ability to withstand temperatures of up to 400deg F with excellent solvent and chemicals resistant.
The placement of this bearing in the exhaust casing is also a factor with temperature at about 200deg C and above.

They should at least go for a higher rated series like Hylomar Advanced Formulation.
