The Abandoned Ulu Dong Mini Hydro

The abandoned Ulu Dong mini hydro was once running very smoothly
until it was 'given' to a local company to operate and maintained
in the name of the New Economic Policy
and this is what we get when it was handed back to the original owner
after it was damaged beyond repair after a few years.

The beam of the overhead crane is still there,
probably it is too heavy for the metal thiefs to cart away.



I was wondering how the pipe can break off like that?








Well! The force of mother nature is very powerful
and can do a whole lot of damage if it is not controlled and maintained properly
by the operators of the plant.

Hutan Lipur Lata Jarum is just below the dam
and it is maintained by the Forestry Department.









For your info Lata Jarum is situated near Kampung Ulu Dong through 20km of village road from the junction of Dong off the Raub Kuala Lipis road about 30 minutes drive from Raub.

    I have been to Lata Jarun couple of times and didnot realize that there is a dam up there... :)

    theeggyolks, it's ulu,20km right up to the deadend.
    JIPP,the crystal clear water is very tempting.
    Papabear,the dam is quite old ,probably 50 yrs.

    I'm from Raub and don't know of this dam.
    It should be maintain, at least for historical reason. To bad the 'tidak apa' Malaysian attitude.
    Lata Jarum was very popular until Mona Fendi Dato' Mazlan murder case. Now the Pulau Chekas down the river is popular.
    I have been at Lata Jarum alone - doing digital map (GPS). Seram! ;)

    Tabib,
    Actually it should be repaired as this is free power,probably enough for the whole Ulu Dong.
    I was there alone too,somehow forgoten about Mona's case and now with the Banting's one
    Lata Jarum can rest in peace.
