The Kuantan Esplanade after a minor upgrade.
Early morning slow shutter shot while waiting for a sunrise shot which never materialized.

Back to the 80ies-Taman Negara
Photos from my 2 trips to the Malaysia National Park
or better known as Taman Negara in the eighties.
It was established in 1938 as King George V National Park
and renamed to Taman Negara after independence,
4,343sq km of the world's oldest tropical rainforest.
.
with the charming Batek people at their temporary camp at Kuala Tahan
while they wait to work as guide to Gunung Tahan.
I took this shot after chatting with them
about their most expensive procession of the moment,
a transistor radio and their passion for song
for Taiwan's songbird,Teresa Teng.
The giant tree of Taman Negara.
Lubuk Simpon picnic site of Tahan river.
on a boat by the Tahan river, notice the transistor radio from the eighties.
Bats of Gua Telinga.
Tembeling river during a dry season.
View from Bumbun Tabing.
A tamed wild deer at the park hq.
Group photo of my first trip with student from Kuantan Polytechnic in 1982.
On our boat ride to Kuala Tahan from Kuala Tembeling.
My second trip with students from SMK Sulaiman, Bentong in 1983.
On the camping ground.

Pristine Batu Payung
A pristine and quiet beach of Kampung Batu Payung
of Tawau,Sabah
once famous for the umbrella or rather mushroom shaped rock
which was said to have broken off sometime before world war 2.
Find of the day,a heart shaped rock.
The other attraction nearby is the turtle rock.
Mr Sabturani,
our volunteer caretaker of the area
and many other attractions around Tawau
spending his retired days giving service to society.
an unknown marker at the cape.
The beach north of Batu Payung.
A jetty used for drying small shrimp used for making 'belacan' or shrimp paste.
I call this one the Belacan Jetty.
Shrimp drying bench view.
A small hut by the Batu Payung beach.
An elephant like rock after some touch up by Mr Sabturani.
The antiqued 9m high Batu Tinagat Lighthouse
build in 1916.

Evergreen Penang Hill
Penang Hill, the only hill station with a funicular train in Malaysia.
A must go hill resorts for visitors to this booming tropical island,
famously known as the Pearl of the Orient.
for its exceptionally nice view, colonial feel,
ambiance and its cool evening temperature
now with the last train down at 10pm on weekdays
and 11pm on weekends.
train-schedule
Besides enjoying the good food in Penang,
this place is a must go for everyone,
as the slogan goes
'You've Never been to Penang unless you've been to Penang Hill.'

Tawau Sunrise
Sunrise at Tawau's quiet seafront,
a town on the south east corner of Sabah,
almost forgotten if not for the beautiful islands
of Sipadan,Mabul and Mataking
at nearby Semporna.
Express Boat probably to Indonesia.
A smoking chimney over at Sebatik Island
but i'm not sure whether it's on the Malaysian or Indonesian side.
Kampung Titingan from town.
