Victoria Bridge Post War Pillbox

The majestic Victoria Bridge build more than 120 years ago
survived two major events, the World War 2,when it was almost destroyed by the retreating British
then rebuild by the Japanese occupying force
and later the uncertainity of the Malayan Emergency from 1948 to 1960
with a relapse that continued till the peace accord of 1989.

The 2 post war concrete pillbox reinforced with granite rock on the outside
most probably from the Malayan Emergency period
was build to protect the strategic bridge from sabotage by the CPM guerilla.
Today there are one left on each side of the bridge and possibly a bigger one in the southern fence up
railway area which is covered by thick undergrowth.
I believe there should have been a pair on each side in the early days for proper defence.
A bridge view from inside the Pillbox
The emblem that survived the years
Beware of the big gaping hole when approaching the bridge

The landscape here have since changed from the time i took the photos in 2018
Blurry shot of a passing train
A row of abandoned KTM railway quarters
This could probably be the Station Master's quarters
Small town Karai with 2 row old shophouse
Locals enjoying their meal here, a place where time doesn't seem to move
An old bungalow from the same era of the bridge when tin and coal mines are around
Semblance of its past splendour still exist today minus those asbestos roof
