a ride which basically brings one back to the 70s,
a twisting and winding ride through the Padas Gorge
on a track which was first build in 1903
which we might not be able to experience
after the line is fully upgraded.
Well! For a minimal fare of RM2.75 for a 2.5hrs,48km ride,
what is there to complain!
The railcar i took(3102) from Beaufort to Halogilat station
before switching to another for the next ride to Tenom.

A 1968 Hitachi Diesel locomotive.
Bamboo and water buffalo.
Solar panels for used at the Halogilat station to run computers and lightings.
The line which runs beside the Padas river
offers a breathtaking and scenic view of the river gorge.
Here everything goes in because it's the only means of transport through this gorge.
An eerie looking cloud with sharp claws seen above the gorge.
The fast rapids awaits white water rafters.

Wahhh. I've heard a lot about how scenic the scenery is along the railway but I've never seen it. And it really looks beautiful. And the dam! I've heard about it too but my imagination of it was totally different. I thought it was massive. LOL! Thanks for sharing all these Thomas.

Actually, the scenery is really TERRIBLE. In the early 90s, the Padas Gorge was indeed scenic, because all the hills were clothed in mostly unlogged beautiful rainforest. Now, we see the result of unbridled GREED. I'm quite speechless seeing the effects of the Malaysian timber barons who stripped almost all the trees from the hills till they are almost barren. This is NOT the natural vegetation of the hills, it is nothing but a low stature tangled mass of belukar. And the river is totally teh tarik due to massive erosion.
Yah,you are right,left barren by the tycoons and people are suffering in the drought now.
