A stroll around Pulau Ketam

A visit to the uncompleted Port Klang passenger jetty on a saturday morning
ended up in a 30 minutes boat ride to Pulau Ketam for me and Winsomjit.
It cost RM7 per person one way for a very comfortable ride in an airconditioned
ex-Sarawak express boat.(Or retired boat)
To board is quite dangerous if weather is bad,
i wonder why can't they design somesort of aero bridge like those used at the airport where it will be safer
where you will walk straight into the boat.

The new jetty for local and international(Indonesian) passsenger.

This jetty in Pulau Ketam is also new.

The people on the island loves their late Sultan Salahuddin very much,
his royal highness use to cycle around the island
in a chopper bicycle those days.

The volunteer Fireman are the most important people here.

The main temple of the island.

Nice window decorations, unique only to Pulau Ketam.

Flower theme.

Another decorated window, this one have a bird theme.

Everything here is on stilt, from house to shops and temples
even dogs have to answer their call of nature on it.
Hey! didn't anyone notice that there is no more rubbish around?

Nice reflections of a row of stilts house
nowadays without rubbish floating everywhere
the whole island is shinning clean
it must have been a total change of habit for the islanders.
I wonder who is the great one who motivated them.

The Plaque on the island's old telecoms exchange opened in 1963
by the late Tun Sambanthan,a pioneer in the London talks,
he is one man who we can refer to on what our social contract was all about,
well when he was around nobody want to ask.

Plenty of life boay on the roof of the boat.

  3. Thank you for sharing this post! My last trip to Pulau Ketam was in late 2008. I can see loads of changes from your pictures.

No more ugly rubbish??? That's a pleasant surprise. Looks like there's actually some interesting new features - brand spanking new jetties and modern brick houses.

What about stray dogs? During my last trip, I saw villagers trapping stray dogs with a huge metal 'mouse trap' Over 10 dogs crammed together.

The rusty boats are really dangerous. I've been to Pulau Ketam twice. I prayed hard the boat will not capsize. The interior of the boat is old, rusty and outdated!

    Cheers!
